Improv Boston

ImprovBoston is Boston's longest-running improvisational comedy troupe (since 1982). Last year we finally got a home of our own: The former Back Alley Theater in Inman Sq. in Cambridge -- not far from where the Proposition used to perform.

Our signature piece is our full-length improvised musical. We also do the Harold quite frequently.

We now run 4 nights a week.

Thursdays at 8:00 is FREE. It's College Night and is when we run Theatresports and once a month our "Babe Night" show featuring an all "Babe" (read female) cast.

Fridays we have ImprovBoston at 8:00. Saturdays at 8 and 10:30 we also have ImprovBoston.

And, Sundays at 7:00 we feature "The Next ImprovBoston" our brand new junior troupe.

We're hoping to add late nights on Fridays soon. This will probably feature a variety of things. The first looks to be a one-man show by one of our members. But, I'll send more info on that when it is finalized.

Ticket prices:
Fri. & Sat. @ 8 - $12, $10 for students & seniors w/ id
Sat. @ 10:30 & Sun. @ 7 - $10, $8 for students & seniors w/ id

WORKSHOPS

We also have a workshop program. Workshops start as demand calls for them. At the moment we have a beginner and an intermediate running. We have a new young person who will probably be running the workshop programs starting in the latter part of the summer who has some very ambitious ideas, so the number of workshops should expand and may have some more predictability.

Typically our workshops run for 6 three-hour sessions. We have a series that includes beginner, intermediate and advanceD followed by show prep for groups which want to go to that level. Then we have Harold and musical workshops as well as some 2-day weekend workshops: improvising songs, character work, improv for women, and styles. The 6 week workshops currently cost $120, but I expect we'll be increasing the price at the beginning of the year.

OTHER GIGS & EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS

And, we do all kinds of outside gigs from bar mitzvahs to corporate education. A full-scale show (5 actors, 1 keyboardist, 90 minutes) costS $2,000. Shorter shows w/ fewer people are priced less as appropriate. Shows requiring overnight or other extended travel may be priced higher. Shows requiring extensive scripting or other adaptation may also be priced higher.

We also have a schools program. We have 2 approaches. One focuses on substance abuse and related issues education and the other will utilize Theatresports. Prices for this are negotiated individually and reflect travel, etc. as well as program costs.
